Getting referrals on Superpoints

By far, the most common complaint I've heard about Superpoints has been its dependency on referrals. Many people join the site, post their link once or twice, assume they're at a dry well, and declare it impossible to get referrals. While some of these people may just be barking up the wrong tree, many simply aren't posting the right way.

  1. How are you posting?  The most common mistake people make is expecting to get referrals by throwing out an invite without any content. It's a bit like fishing without bait. Sure, you might get incredibly lucky and catch something , but chances are all the fish will go for one of the other hooks in the water that have worms. This is especially true when you're posting on a site like Reddit that has a vote system because all the helpful comments will be found at the top of the page while most readers don't even see your "I don't have anyone yet, use my link" at the bottom. Regardless of where you're posting links, you should make an effort to be helpful and add content to the discussion.

  2. Why should they use your invite? By being friendly and on topic, you've already improved your odds of getting the referral considerably. However, you can still do more to give yourself an edge. Make it clear that you want to help them be successful on the site. Mention that you'll help by spreading their invites alongside your own once they join, even if it's only until they get to gold or platinum. Offering that helping hand will not only help them be more optimistic and willing to give it a try, but it will also help you by encouraging them to be active, long term users on Superpoints. Giving advice or pointing people to more information is also generally well received and likely to gain their favor. Try linking to a helpful guide.

  3. Are you optimistic? "I've been on the site for a month and haven't gotten a single person to sign up. You can't make money on Superpoints anymore. Here's my link." is a rubbish way to get referrals. Not only will people steer clear of your links, they might even avoid the site altogether. I'm not suggesting you oversell it as some massive opportunity, but give a positive and realistic idea of what users can get out of the site.

  4. Are you asking the right people? Not everyone is going to be interested. You can expect fewer people to be interested if you post where it doesn't belong or if you're talking to someone that is already overworked or wouldn't care about an extra few bucks here and there. Look for forums and sites that cater to college students, stay-at-home parents, and people specifically interested in GPT and PTC sites. It's not a bad idea to ask your friends and family to sign up, but don't be shocked when they're less interested in it. Similarly, posting your invite as a comment on the Superpoints Facebook page or official blog probably wont help since people there are already signed up.  Forums and blogs about Superpoints and similar sites are great since people may have found themselves there through an interest in some other similar site, but the official Superpoints sites are going to be populated primarily by users that are already gathering points.
